Our Story

Our Vision

The Age of Hemp (TAOH) is a concept we created to contribute to the revitalization of hemp made products.

Hemp is a sustainable, eco-friendly alternative to plastics and other synthetic materials that pollute our waterways and environment.

Our promise is to deliver high quality, environmentally friendly hemp bags that are durable, fashionable, and most importantly, sustainable. We are committed to re-examining our products to ensure that we are doing our best for the environment, while contributing positively to the work environment of our producers in Nepal.

Our Story

Sam, originally from Lively, Ontario, and Abha, from Kathmandu, Nepal first met in 2010 while studying together in Saskatoon. Since then, their journey together has been a whirlwind, taking them throughout South Africa, China, Nepal, and India. Along the way, they got married according to traditional Nepali custom in Kathmandu, hiked mountains in Nepal and China, studied yoga and Eastern spirituality in Rishikesh, and fell in love with many other tiny things this world has to offer - like Jackfruit!

During their most recent trip throughout Asia in 2018, they were repeatedly confronted with the sad reality of the state of the environment. They came across numerous rivers polluted with plastics and choked on more polluted air than they wanted to. As a result, their priorities while travelling began to shift.

Back in Nepal, they started exploring eco-friendly, sustainable materials that were available in the local market. In little time, they came across the crown jewel, hemp. Hemp, which is native to the Himalayan region has been growing wild throughout Nepal for as long as anyone can remember. Found mostly in the "hilly" regions of the country, Nepalis have been, cultivating, harvesting, and processing hemp for various uses for a long time. For example, they consume the seeds for nutrition and process the fibers to make ropes, textiles, and many other useful products.

For several months, Sam and Abha immersed themselves in the process and production of hemp-made products, which eventually culminated into their business.

For Sam and Abha, TAOH represents a paradigm shift, a new way of existing and relating to the material world. They're guiding values include compassion for life and respect and appreciation for the environment.  And it is with those values that TAOH will move forward.

About our products
  • We use Himalayan hemp from Nepal’s hilly regions, where it both grows naturally and is cultivated.

  • Our hemp fibers are processed using traditional Nepali methods, which are employed mostly by women in rural, economically disadvantaged villages.
